Volunteers from B&Q’s finance team took a day away from their desks crunching numbers to give back to the local community.
Mountbatten Hospice, who had recently received a grant from the B&Q Foundation, welcomed the team from B&Q to transform their outdoor space.
Here are comments from two of the volunteers who took part.
“Mountbatten provided end of life care for a family friend a few years ago, so there was a personal connection there which made it more meaningful. It’s also good to get a team working on something a bit different to the normal day job which helped to build a team rapport away from the desk.
We’re a big business and it’s always good to give something back to community and charity projects. It’s good to show that we really do care about our communities and are willing to take time out of our busy days to take action, it’s not just a corporate slogan.
Get stuck in, the stories that you hear from people are really inspiring and it’s amazing what you can achieve in a day or afternoon.” Stuart King, B&Q Volunteer July 2022
“Volunteering gives you a chance to be able to make a difference, no matter how big or small.
Knowing we were able to support a local hospice gave a huge sense of fulfilment.
We all need to play our part in supporting charities. B&Q is a huge platform, if we can make a difference, this could also encourage others to get involved and help support charities.
Every charity we help could have a huge impact on the lives those the charity help.” Amy Harris, B&Q Volunteer July 2022
